Unemployment Fell Statewide in November

Unemployment fell across California in November 2012.

Sonoma County's unemployment rate was 7.7 percent, up from a revised October 2012 rate of 7.6 percent, according to data released by the Employment Development Department today.

The state unemployment rate dropped to 9.8 percent in November from 10.1 percent the previous month.

Most Bay Area counties saw similar or slightly lowered unemployment figures from October, according to the report.

In the Bay Area, the highest unemployment numbers came from Solano County at 9.3 percent, the same as the previous month.

The lowest unemployment is in Marin County, which maintained a 5.8 percent rate.

In San Francisco, unemployment dropped slightly to 6.7 percent from 6.8 percent in October, according to the report.

November's jobless numbers were down sharply from a year ago when the state's rate was 11.3 percent.

The national unemployment rate dropped to 7.7 percent in November compared to 7.9 percent the previous month, according to the report.

The state's unemployment rate is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 households throughout California.
