Only one Sonoma County school is among the Top 100 Best High Schools in California for 2012, according to a new survey by US News and World Report magazine.
That school is Roseland University Prep, in Santa Rosa, coming in as 49th in California and 290th in the country.
In Petaluma, Casa Grande High School took the 167th spot statewide. Petaluma High School ranked 264th in the survey while Healdsburg High School ranked at 253.
A three-step process was used to determine the rankings. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using performance on state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.
Several other Sonoma County schools, mostly in Santa Rosa, showed high numbers in two categories but were not placed in the top-listed schools by US News and World Report. Other schools in Sonoma County failed to rank at all.
